Paid Up Subscriber Exits Shuvee With Fractured Ankle; To Undergo Surgery Wednesday

Paid Up Subscriber was never asked to run in the Shuvee, eventually winning by 32 1/2 lengths

Paid Up Subscriber’s racing career is in jeopardy after it was discovered that the 5-year-old mare came out of the race with a fractured right front ankle.

Trainer Chad Brown told the Daily Racing Form that the daughter of Candy Ride was to undergo surgery on Wednesday. One or two screws will be inserted to repair the ankle. Brown told the DRF that while Paid Up Subscriber will definitely be out the rest of the year, owners Peter Brant and Joseph Allen haven’t decided to breed her next year or race her again.

“Her racing future at this point is undecided,” Brown said on Tuesday. “It’s extremely disappointing because she won so easy it’s hard to imagine that she could get hurt in a race where she just galloped through the lane.”

Paid Up Subscriber has compiled a record of 5-3-2 from 15 starts, for earnings of $ 862,850.
