Donegal Moon with Joe Bravo riding won the $ 150,000 Grade III betfair.com Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park
Recent Pegasus Stakes (G3) winner Donegal Moon has been added to the 2016 Fasig-Tipton July HORA sale as Hip No. 508. The 3-year-old, a $ 220,000 yearling acquisition by Jerry Crawford’s Donegal Racing, won the 1 1/16-mile Pegasus on June 19th with a visually impressive move turning for home and a relentless drive down the stretch. The Pegasus is the local prep for the $ 1,000,000 Haskell Invitational (G1), to be run on July 31st.
“Donegal Racing works very hard to do the best job possible for our partners financially,” Crawford said. “This means that when our cupboard is full of quality horses we can occasionally sell one to enhance the return to our partners. That is the reason we are willing to offer Donegal Moon. We know he will be one of the favorites in his next graded stakes start. Todd would love to have the horse back, and we would be open to staying in as a partner if the right scenario develops as well.”
By perennial top sire Malibu Moon, Donegal Moon has earned just short of $ 200,000 for trainer Todd Pletcher. The racing/stallion prospect will be consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Donegal Racing.
“Donegal Racing is in the fortunate position of having multiple stakes horses, as well as some very promising 2-year-olds,” Pletcher said. “This allows them to present an improving racehorse in Donegal Moon in the open marketplace, or continue to run him as one of the top 3-year-olds in the country. I am excited about his prospects should we continue on with him.”
Mark Taylor of Taylor Made Sales Agency echoed Pletcher’s sentiments.
“Donegal Moon’s Ragozin and Equibase Speed Figures compare favorably with the best 3-year-old colts in the United States,” Taylor said. “This is a unique opportunity to buy a 3-year-old colt at the top of his game and have some serious fun this summer.”
Donegal Moon will be available for inspection at Barn 12 beginning on Sunday, July 10th, at 1:00 p.m. The sale will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11th.
