POSTPONED has crossed a significant hurdle in his bid to land Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after being drawn favourably in stall seven of the 16 runners.
Bookmakers clipped Postponed to 7-4 favourite (from 2-1) for the race after Japanese raider Makahiki was posted in gate 14. The second favourite was pushed out to 6-1 (from 9-2) to land the Group 1 at Chantilly.
Postponed is unbeaten this season with four wins, his last three victories all achieved at the highest level; theDubai Sheema Classic, Coronation Cup and Juddmonte International.
Frankie Dettori’s attempt to win a fifth Arc on Order Of St George also hit a significant snag after he was draw widest of all in stall 16. Aidan O’Brien’s other runners Highland Reel and Found will race from stalls 11 and 12 respectively.
Harzand was cut to 7-1 (from 8) to complete the same Derby-Irish Derby-Arc treble as the Aga Khan’s Sinndar after he was drawn in stall six.
The ground at Chantilly, where the Arc is being held this year while Longchamp is redeveloped, was described as between good and good to soft. The ground for Sunday is predicted to be good.
