Pretty City Dancer Out Of Alcibiades With Injury, Still Possible For Breeders’ Cup

John Oxley’s Pretty City Dancer, winner of the G1 Spinaway in a dead heat at Saratoga last out, was scheduled to race in this Saturday’s G1 Alcibiades at Keeneland as her final prep for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. According to, the daughter of Tapit sustained a minor ankle injury in a workout on Sept. 23, and will have to skip the Alcibiades.

“We x-rayed her (right front) ankle and it looked fine,” said trainer Mark Casse. “We gave her a few days off, and we’re just being cautious with her. We’re going to see how she trains before we breeze her again. We just didn’t have time enough to work her (before the Alcibiades), so we’re going to skip it.”

The Spinaway was a “Win and You’re In,” so Pretty City Dancer has already earned a berth to the Breeders’ Cup. While Casse remained optimistic that the filly could train up to the race at Santa Anita, he also suggested that she would not be pushed to make it there.
