HIDDEN CYCLONE blew away his rivals under a canny front-running ride from Danny Mullins to register a convincing two-and-a-quarter-length success.

Sent straight into the lead, Hidden Cyclone set a strong pace in the early stages and soon established a clear lead over his six rivals.

The chasing pack, headed by The Game Changer and Rashaan, closed on the approach to the turn for home, but Mullins had saved a bit and his 11-year-old partner, belying his advancing years, found extra to forge clear after the last.

‘Plenty up his sleeve’

Explaining the tactics, Mullins said: “I wanted to go out at a good gallop, then steady him up to get a breather before quickening on the turn for home. It worked out well.

“I went out at a fair old gallop but he’s a good horse and I managed to get a breather and fill him up. He had plenty up his sleeve.

“He’s getting on a bit, but that was as good a performance he’s produced since I’ve started riding him – hopefully he can win a few more.”

Great servant

A delighted trainer Shark Hanlon, hailing his stable star, said: “The horse has never let me down – that’s his 16th win and I think he’s been placed another 14 times.

“He’s a great horse and a great servant. He enjoys life and hopefully we can keep him in that frame of mind for another 12 months.

“Danny let him roll and he jumped brilliantly. Had he jumped that well in the past we might have won a Galway Hurdle with him – maybe we’ll win the next one!”
