Patricia Generazio’s homebred Pure Sensation skipped away to a 2 1/4-length victory in Saturday’s Grade 3 Parx Dash at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania. The 5-year-old gelded son of Zensational covered five furlongs on the yielding turf in :57.35 for trainer Christophe Clement and jockey Kendrick Carmouche.
Pure Sensation took the lead out of the gate and never relinquished it, continuing to draw away from his rivals throughout the length of the sprint. Initially his lead was just a head over Rocket Heat and Power Alert, who pushed him through a first quarter in :22.50, but he extended that lead to nearly two lengths by the top of the lane, covering a half-mile in :45.29. Pure Sensation continued to pour on the speed down the lane under Carmouche, finishing up 2 1/4 lengths in front of Power Alert. Fan-favorite Ben’s Cat was near-last early on in his 57th career start; he made up a lot of ground late but could do no better than third.
Bred in Florida by his owner, Pure Sensation was winning his third graded stake in the Parx Dash. His overall record stands at 7-4-3 from 17 starts, with earnings of over $ 860,000.
