MONDAY’s meeting at Chepstow has been cancelled after persistent rain left the track waterlogged in places.

The course was hit by 15mm of rain on Sunday and, after receiving a further deluge on Monday, officials called an inspection for 9.30am. However, with further rain forecast, the track was deemed not fit for racing and the meeting was cancelled.

Speaking after the inspection, clerk of the course Keith Ottesen said: “There is a band of rain which would have taken a considerable time to clear and it is not going to stop raining in time.

“There is standing water on the course and the rain is due to carry on into the afternoon.”

Regarding the amount of rain that fell on Monday, Ottesen added: “We were forecast between 5-10mm but have already had more than double that amount and will probably have about 30mm today.”

The cancellation of Chepstow’s meeting means that Windsor stage the only Flat turf card on Monday. The going at Windsor has eased to soft, heavy in places (from soft).

The rain has not had such a big impact at Southwell – where a jumps meeting is set to take place – and the going is described as good to soft.
