Genuine Cheltenham Gold Cup contender? Now a two-time Grade 1 winner, Road To Respect lands the Leopardstown Christmas Chase – formerly known as the Lexus – under jockey Sean Flanagan for trainer Noel Meade and owner Gigginstown House Stud.
Halving in price for the most prestigious contest in jumps racing, Road To Respect is now a general 10/1 for general Gold Cup glory as current holder Sizing John finishes down the field in a desperately disappointing performance at Leopardstown. Balko Des Flos (66/1) and Outlander (16/1) completed the places for a Gigginstown 1-2-3 in the Grade 1 highlight.
Meade said: “That was great. Everything went to plan. Road To Respect settled better today than last time and that was a big help. He had to improve to win today and he’s done that. He’s a Cheltenham Gold Cup contender now.
“I don’t know whether he’ll run again before Cheltenham. If he does it will be in the Unibet Irish Gold Cup [February 4].”
Flanagan said: “Road To Respect has been a very good horse to me. He’s done everything perfect today and he’s done it well. I’m delighted.”
