Robbie Power: Road to the top

A sensational rise in the autumn of his career – jockey Robbie Power has enjoyed a 2016/17 season which he’ll never forget, with a haul of big-race victories including the Irish Gold Cup, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Punchestown Gold Cup aboard Sizing John, the Irish Grand National on Our Duke and numerous other big-race winners at the Cheltenham Festival, Aintree’s Grand National meeting and the Punchestown Festival.

But the campaign could have transpired differently, as the jockey explains to At The Races presennter Mick Fitzgerald. Suffering from double vision after taking a kick to the head in a fall at Galway the previous summer, the jockey has impaired vision in the top of his left eye and his riding career may have been over. But with the help of a leading eye expert the rider bounced back – as well as from an injury setback shortly before Sizing John’s victory in the Irish Gold Cup…

Power looks back at a truly memorable 2017, including the victories of Sizing John and a remarkable performance from Our Duke in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

Hear from Power himself, his father Con, as well as trainer Jessica Harrington and assistant Katie.
