In the small village of Stainforth in South Yorkshire, 79-year-old Ron Thompson wouldn’t change his life for anything.
Brought up next door to Doncaster racecourse, the trainer has spent (on and off) 65 years in the horse racing industry. He built his own yard, built his own stables and rides out every single morning. He goes to bed witha whisky most nights, too!
The self-made man keeps himself in good shape – despite having his first ride aged 13 weighing just 6 stone and suffering a horror fall in his younger days at Hexham, leaving him paralysed with a broken back for months.
