NEMORALIA found only Al Shaqab’s Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Qemah too good in the Coronation Stakes and the same team’s Zelzal provides perhaps the biggest obstacle to Jeremy Noseda’s filly opening her Group 1 account today.

Nemoralia showed a high level of form in two runs last autumn in the United States and warmed up for the Coronation with a six-length success at York.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda said: “I’m delighted with her. She’s in great form and despite the watering I’m sure it will be quick ground. She’s travelled over well and touch wood everything is on schedule.”

Rouget considered Zelzal ready to contest the Poule d’Essai des Poulains on just his third start following two wins on the all-weather.

The occasion appeared to overwhelm Zelzal at Deauville, but he then showed a fine turn of foot to run down Moon Trouble in the Group 3 Prix Paul de Moussac over course and distance last month.

While Nemoralia is the headline act among Britain’s four challengers, she has a classy supporting cast from a trio of colts who all lined up in the 2,000 Guineas.

Stormy Atlantic went into the Classic as arguably the home team’s leading candidate and his disappointing performance was explained by a muscle strain in his shoulder.

First Selection faded after leading at Newmarket before putting in a gutsy performance to hold off allcomers in the race for second behind The Ghurka in the Poule d’Essai.

Clive Cox has called up longtime ally Gerald Mosse for Zonderland, who proved best of the trio on Guineas day when sixth and showed an impressive turn of foot to land the Heron Stakes at Sandown last time.
