Runhappy ‘Scary Good’ In Final Breeze Before Ack Ack

Sunday morning at Keeneland, James McIngvale’s Runhappy got in his final breeze before his 2016 debut, scheduled for Oct. 1 in Churchill Downs’ G3 Ack Ack Handicap. The Eclipse Award-winning sprint champion breezed five furlongs in :58 3/5, according to bloodhorse.com, galloping out in 1:12.

“He’s scary good, guys; scary good,” said exercise rider Marcus O’Donnell, aboard for the work. “I was trying to gear him down after the turn, but he wanted to break off again at the seven-eighths pole.”

“I think he’s ready,” trainer Laura Wohlers said. “We’re not going to do anything else at this point. He did a strong two-minute clip on Wednesday and did that well. We’ve got this good, strong blowout under him and now it’s just letting him relax and conserve some energy. He’ll go to Churchill the morning of the race. We don’t do Lasix, so there is no reason to go early.”

Runhappy has not raced since his victory in the G1 Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26. The Ack Ack, a one-turn mile contest, is expected to serve as the Super Saver son’s prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
