THE RACE was all over as soon as jockey Robert Havlin unleashed Persuasive to the front as the filly flew home to land the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown and stretch her unbeaten record to five.

The John Gosden-trained three-year-old produced her most impressive display yet to dispatch her Group 3 rivals with ease.

It was a patient ride by Havlin who settled Persuasive, 6-4 favourite, in mid-division before driving the daughter of Dark Angel clear inside the final furlong to win by three lengths.

Blond Me finished well to take second, whilst Lucy The Painter took third.

Robert Havlin was excited by Persuasive’s progress and felt she could step up to greater heights.

The winning jockey said: “She got shuffled back but she’s improving at a rate of knots and she has some turn of foot. She’s versatile ground wise too.

“She wouldn’t have stopped quickening if there had been another one in front of her. Hopefully she can go all the way to the top.

“She’s got the right temperament and is very laid back. She’s never fallen apart after a race, she gets over it very quickly.”

Big targets to come

Chris Richardson, managing director to owners Cheveley Park Stud, was taken aback by her display.

Richardson said: “She was impressive and is very talented. I thought she had done so well physically since Royal Ascot.

“She’s got lots of smart entries, but we have one or two other fillies to bear in mind. She’ll go for the good mile races and is in the Matron (Group 1, Leopardstown). The Sun Chariot (Group 1, Newmarket) would be attractive too.”

Sandown: TCA Abu Dhabi Solario Stakes (Group 3), 7f, 2yo

SOUTH SEAS confirmed his liking for good ground and ability in Group company to land the Solario Stakes in impressive fashion.

Andrew Balding’s son of Lope De Vega, now unbeaten in three starts, holds entries in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes and Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in the coming months and appears an exciting type for owners Qatar Racing.

BoyleSports cut South Seas to 12-1 (from 25) for the Dewhurst Stakes following his taking win.

Cruised to the lead

South Seas travelled well under Oisin Murphy and breezed into the lead with a furlong to run before repelling the challenge of eventual third Eqtiraan, who was green in the closing stages, and Salouen, who ran on well for second.

Balding said: “You had to be impressed with his first two wins, but it’s nice to see him go and do it in a race with a bit of depth. The second might have been an outsider, but he’s pretty good, and so is the third.

“The Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy are the obvious options but Sheikh Fahad will want to discuss everything. They usually step up to something better from this race.”
