A thrilling finish and a masterclass ride from the winning rider – Sea Of Class lands the Darley Irish Oaks on just her fourth career start under jockey James Doyle for trainer William Haggas and owners Sunderland Holdings at the Curragh.
A small but select field including Epsom Oaks winner Forever Together and runaway Chester Oaks and Ribblesdale Stakes winner Magic Wand lined up for the Curragh Classic, but it was the Newmarket raider who triumphed on this first start in top-level company after making the big leap from Listed level.
Ridden with supreme confidence by Doyle, the Sea The Stars filly was given plenty of time by the jockey who did not even flick his stick, cajoling his mount to the line in front with fine timing and no little finesse.
The Yorkshire Oaks next month could be a potential target – where Sea Of Class could meet last year’s Irish Oaks winner and real star Enable – while the Qatar Prix de l;Arc de Triomphe could also feature as a true end-of-season target now.
