Shakhimat, with regular rider Emma-Jayne Wilson in the irons, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.40 at Woodbine Racecourse Tuesday in preparation for the Queen’s Plate.
Trainer Roger Attfield looked on as Shakhimat began unhurriedly, getting his first three furlongs in :37.40, and galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.40 before pulling up through seven furlongs in 1:28.60.
“Beautiful,” said Attfield, back at the barn. “He finished up down the lane, and galloped out just like I wanted to. Everything’s good.”
Wilson, who has ridden Shakhimat in each of his six starts, also was pleased with the move.
“He really didn’t take a deep breath,” said the jockey. “He’s ready.”
Shakhimat, owned by Dan Gale and Richard Hogan, will be looking to give Attfield a record ninth Queen’s Plate win. In his last start, the colt finished second as the odds-on choice in the Plate Trial.
