Sharjah – Guinness Galway Hurdle (2018)

What a performance – Sharjah lands the €300,000 Guinness Galway Hurdle under top-weight for trainer Willie Mullins, jockey Patrick Mullins and owners Rich and Sussanah Ricci in a thrilling contest at Galway.

Sharjah has been kept busy by Mullins and this was his ninth start over hurdles since his debut for the yard in September last year. Sharjah looked a surefire Grade 1 winner in the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival last December, but crashed out at the final flight when well in command – the five-year-old has now gained compensation in one of the iconic races in the Irish jumping calendar.
