MANY CLOUDS could be given a wind operation in the next few weeks with trainer Oliver Sherwood pondering the surgery to assist his 2015 Grand National hero for the coming core jumps season.
The nine-year-old returned to Sherwood’s Lambourn base at the end of last week after spending the summer at owner Trevor Hemmings’ stud on the Isle of Man.
He had previously been well beaten by Rule The World when defending his Aintree crown in April, and corrective surgery is something Sherwood is set to consider as he gets his stable star back into racing shape.
Sherwood said on Wednesday: “He came back from Mr Hemmings’ on Friday and has just started being ridden this week. We haven’t got a set plan.
“We’ll get him half-fit and see if we’re going to have a little op done on his wind. It’s too early say, but my gut feeling is he’ll have a little one; we’ll know more in six weeks.”
Many Clouds, who has the 3m1f Listed chase at Aintree in December as a possible target, is 33-1 to win the Grand National for a second time next spring.
