Hugh Bowman celebrates aboard Winx after her 2nd consecutive Cox Plate victory in 2016.
Australia’s wonder mare was at it again on Saturday, extending her winning streak to sixteen straight races. Winx, the daughter of Street Cry, didn’t just cross the wire first in the Group 1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes on Golden Slipper day at Rosehill Gardens – she absolutely annihilated the field, galloping across the finish 7 1/4 lengths better than her competition.
“I didn’t expect her to win like that….she is just an amazing horse,” trainer Chris Waller told the Herald Sun.
“I knew on my way to the barriers she meant business today,” added jockey Hugh Bowman. “I feel like she is in the prime of her career.”
Winx has now won 11 Group 1 races, tied for fifth most top-level victories all-time in Australia. She is scheduled to make her next start in the country’s richest race, the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 8.
