Undefeated champion Songbird will put her perfect 10-for-10 record on the line in two weeks’ time when she ships to Parx Racing in Pennsylvania to contest the Grade 1, $ 1 million Cotillion Stakes. The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained daughter of Medaglia d’Oro breezed at Santa Anita Monday morning, recording a bullet five furlongs in :58.80.
“We feel like she’s plenty ready,” Hollendorfer told the Daily Racing Form. “That’s our major work before going to Philadelphia.”
Scheduled to breeze a half mile this Sunday, Songbird will then ship to Parx early the next week. Following the Cotillion, Songbird is expected to be prepped for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita.
Songbird will face exclusively 3-year-old fillies in the 1 1/16 mile contest, among them likely Cathryn Sophia, who easily trounced her competition over the local surface in the Princess of Sylmar Stakes on Sept. 3.
