STAR filly Minding has scared off all but four rivals as she goes for a fifth Group 1 win in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
A brilliant winner of the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks, Minding suffered a shock defeat on her last visit to the Curragh when beaten a head by Jet Setting in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Aidan O’Brien’s imperious three-year-old receives 12lb from the quartet of four-year-olds in the field, which include James Fanshawe’s Speedy Boarding and Luca Cumani’s Koora.
British raiders have landed three of the last four renewals, with Izzi Top, Ambivalent and Thistle Bird landing the €147,750 prize from 2012-2015, though Aidan O’Brien was successful last year with three-year-old Diamondsandrubies.
Minding is a general 1-4 shot to defeat her older rivals, with Koora 8-1 second favourite and Speedy Boarding 10-1.
Another potential star
O’Brien and Ryan Moore team up in the opener with Taj Mahal, a brother to Gleneagles, who makes his racecourse debut in the 7f juvenile maiden.
The son of Galileo is entered in the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh in September, as well as next year’s Investec Derby.
Wolferton Handicap winner Sir Isaac Newton makes a swift return in the Group 3 International Stakes, where he takes on Agnes Stewart, who was last seen finishing second in the Group 1 Dubai Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket two years ago.
Another O’Brien-trained Royal Ascot winner, Queen’s Vase victor Sword Fighter, also reappears in the Group 2 Coral.ie Curragh Cup, taking on three rivals – Cymro, Alveena and stablemate Landofhopeandglory.
