Supasundae beats Melon and Samcro – Punchestown Champion Hurdle (2018)

Thrills and spills in the big race on day four of the 2018 Punchestown Festival…

Irish Champion Hurdle winner Supasundae crowns a noble and consistent season with victory at Punchestown, a second top-level win in career under jockey Robbie Power for trainer Jessica Harrington in the colours of the late Ann and Alan Potts. But what might have happened?

Melon, second after running as mighty race in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last time, and Samcro, arguably the most exciting jumps horse in training in the UK and Ireland and taking on older horses for the first time out of novice company, were both poised just as the race was set to reach a thrilling denouement only for an unlikely scenario to play out.

You can’t take anything for granted in this game!
