Beholder works for the BC Distaff at Santa Anita Oct. 20
Spendthrift Farm‘s Grade 1-winning duo of Beholder and Lord Nelson will likely be making their final career starts in next week’s Breeders’ Cup.
In an interview earlier this week with the Blood-Horse, Spendthrift’s general manager Ned Toffey indicated that the feeling was that neither horse would race in 2017. Regarding multiple champion Beholder, Toffey said, “We never say never, but right now, that’s the plan.”
“If she wins by 10 lengths, people might change their minds. It’s been a great run. Everything she’s done in the last year has just been gravy, because what she did before was so special.”
Three-time G1 winner Lord Nelson is scheduled to join the stallion roster at Spendthrift in 2017. “His book isn’t totally full, but it’s nearly full,” Toffey said. “He’s one of the most exciting stallion prospects we’ve ever had—not only his breeding, but his conformation.”
