Taking It On The Road: Songbird Headed To East Coast For Summer Campaign

Fox Hill Farms’ Songbird and jockey Mike Smith cruise to a easy victory in the G2 Summertime Oaks

After keeping her perfect record intact when winning the G2 Summertime Oaks on Saturday, champion Songbird will now head to the East Coast for a summer and fall campaign.

According to a report in the Blood-Horse, owner Rick Porter has confirmed that the undefeated daughter of Medaglia d’Oro will likely make her next start in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 24. After that, plans call for Songbird to start in the G1 Alabama Aug. 20, and the G1 Cotillion Stakes Sept. 24.

Porter told the Blood-Horse that he’s “almost positive” that the CCA Oaks at Saratoga will be Songbird’s next start, but he also didn’t rule out the G3 Delaware Oaks on July 7.

“That’s the plan right now,” Porter said of his star filly. “The timing is better for the American Oaks and everybody wants us to run against Carina Mia and Cathryn Sophia, and we want to run against them too.”
