Three-Year-Old Championship Wide Open As ‘Second Half’ Of Season Begins

The ‘second half’ of the 3-year-old racing season begins in earnest this weekend, with Saratoga carding the G2 Jim Dandy on Saturday and Monmouth Park staging the G1 Haskell Invitational the following day.

At this same time last year, American Pharoah was blazing his way to not just the 3-year-old championship, but also Horse of the Year honors, having become the first horse to sweep the Triple Crown in 37 years. In 2016, the 3-year-old picture isn’t quite as clear, and there are several colts that are very much in contention to win the title.
