Total Recall dominates at Leopardstown

Now this is a performance – Total Recall was expected to win, but not many anticipated the way in which he’d do it…

Rated 31lb lower than his handicap mark over fences, the former Hennessy Gold Cup winner was certainly well-treated over hurdles but the horse ran away with jockey Paul Townend, carted his way to the front and won as he liked for trainer Willie Mullins at Leopardstown at the inaugural Dublin Racing Festival. He lost a shoe on the way round too!

This is a horse clearly in rude health, and a tilt at the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on 15 April – and possibly a trip to the Cheltenham Fesatival beforehand in the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup – could be well on the agenda.

Our pundits Gary O’Brien, Kevin Blake and Mick Fitzgwerald react to quite a performance
