A RETURN to the saddle for Hayley Turner may be one of the chief attractions at Saturday’s Shergar Cup but, despite asserting she has no plans to make a full-time comeback, Britain’s most successful female jockey has a future date for the diary as well.
She will be among the former stars saddling up for the Clipper Logistics Leger Legends next month.
Sir Anthony McCoy’s winning ride made plenty of headlines last year and race organiser Dale Gibson is hoping the presence of several recently retired jockeys will make the event just as newsworthy this year.
“Hayley is back in the Shergar Cup and the plan is for her to ride again in the Leger Legends at Doncaster on September 7, where she will be taking on three-time champion jockey Richard Hughes as well as former Irish champion Joseph O’Brien,” said Gibson.
“There are new faces this year in the shape of Chris Dwyer and Paul Eddery, as well as the old stalwarts such as Luke Harvey, Gay Kelleway, Gary Bardwell and myself. We have a wide cross-section of former riders from both the Flat and jumps.”
