Nick Alexander’s Enola Gray has not been beaten in her three career starts, including a pair of California-bred stakes races. This weekend, the sophomore daughter of Grazen will take on open company in her first graded stakes race, the G3 Torrey Pines at Del Mar. A one-mile event for 3-year-old fillies, the race has been won in the past by such horses as Beholder and Stellar Wind.
In her final work before the race, Enola Gray covered six furlongs in 1:12.80 over the Del Mar surface, pleasing trainer Phil D’Amato.
“She’s just poetry in motion,” D’Amato told the Daily Racing Form.
Another D’Amato trainee prepping for the Torrey Pines is Bellamentary, most recently second behind Songbird in the Summertime Oaks. She breezed five furlongs in a bullet :58 flat Monday morning, also at Del Mar.
Also nominated to the Torrey Pines are the following fillies: Belvoir Bay, Bendable, Coppa, Dreamarcher, Emmzy, Jade Princess, Kay Kay, Lunar Empress, Mrs. Norris, Nine Point Nine, Roo’s Valentine, She’s A Warrior, and Uptown Twirl.
