JACK DOYLE landed another big American jumping prize aboard Bob Le Beau (Elizabeth Voss), as he came from last to first on the nine-year-old.
The pair have established a great rapport, winning the Lonesome Glory and New York Turf Writers Cup, and can now add this $ 125,000 race to their haul, having finished fourth in it 12 months ago.
Formerly trained in Ireland by Jessica Harrington, Bob Le Beau was waited with at the rear of the field by Doyle, and Voss admitted she was concerned that topweight had been left with too much to do before charging home up the straight.
“Jack came back and I said ‘you scared … me that you were that far back,’ ” Voss told the Daily Racing Form. “I know he’s got a huge kick but with that weight I was just a little worried with that many lengths to make up.”
Doyle however did not share those concerns and added: “As long as he relaxes and settles, the end of the race is not a problem. He’s got so much speed when he gets going you can point him and put him anywhere you want.”
Bob Le Beau’s next target is a successful defence of the Turf Writers Cup back at Saratoga later this month, having won by seven-and-a-quarter lengths last year.
Along with Doyle, Gavin Sheehan and Danny Mullins also rode in the race, with Sheehan aboard Masserati (fourth) and Mullins on Schoodic (sixth).
