MONDIALISTE (David O’Meara/Danny Tudhope), whose Arlington Million provided such a highlight for his trainer in a largely lacklustre season, will be strongly fancied to win the third North American million-dollar event of his career in the Shadwell Turf Mile.
The Galileo six-year-old is well known to North American audiences, having also won last year’s Woodbine Mile in Canada before coming second to Tepin in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Rivals in a double-figure field at Keeneland include Canadian visitor Tower Of Texas (Roger Attfield/Julien Leparoux), who closed to within a half-length of the mighty Tepin at Woodbine three weeks ago, last year’s winner Grand Arch (Brian Lynch/Luis Saez) and Arlington runner-up Kasaqui (Ignacio Correas/Robby Albarado), who was just a neck behind Mondialiste in the Chicago highlight.
Miss Temple City (Graham Motion/Edgar Prado) defeated the males over course and distance in April in the Maker’s 46 Mile; her trainer also fields Grade 1 winner Ring Weekend (Junior Alvarado), who comes here in good heart after landing the Bernard Baruch at Saratoga last time out.
The consistent Ironicus (Shug McGaughey/Jose Ortiz) represents top New York connections and was beaten by only Flintshire over further last time in Grade 1 company. Tourist (Bill Mott/Jose Lezcano) went wire-to-wire in the Fourstardave but will struggle to do the same with west-cost front runner What A View (Kenneth Black/Kent Desormeaux) in here.
