TIM VAUGHAN played down a gamble building on his four remaining runners at Uttoxeter, stating “I’m certainly not involved”.
Pat Cooney of bet365, who have cut all four of Vaughan’s runners, said there had been small amounts of money and said: “We’re certainly not dealing in Barney Curley proportions.”
The firm were aided in limiting liabilities by the fact that many of the overnight yankees involved Looksnowtlikebrian, a subsequent non-runner in the 5.40. This morning the other three have been paired with Officer Hoolihan, Vaughan’s first runner in the 2.20.
“It has not been a big gamble by any means, we’re certainly not dealing in Barney Curley proportions. Tim Vaughan has his horses in fine form and on bits of form they look well handicapped. That certainly hasn’t been lost on some of our shrewder punters and they’ve taken a chance.
Officer Hoolihan is now a best-priced 7-4 (having opened at 4-1), while Oskars Eva, who runs in the 2.55, is a best-priced 9-4 (opened at 7-1). Dalaman, Vaughan’s runner in the 4.05, is 9-4 (opened at 11-1), and Knight’s Reward in the 5.10 is 2-1 (opened at 12-1). All four head their respective markets. Looksnowtlikebrian was backed into a best-priced 11-4 (from 12-1) before his withdrawal.
Speaking to the Racing Post on Thursday morning, Vaughan said: “I haven’t heard anything about it, I’m certainly not involved. We had five winners the other day and the horses are in great form, so perhaps people are latching on to that?
“They all have pieces of form that give them chances, but the prices they are now are crazy. I’m delighted everyone thinks we can have four winners, let’s hope they’re right.”
