Vosburgh Winner Joking Recovered From Illness, Returns To Training At Belmont

Talented sprinter Joking, who captured the G1 Vosburgh Stakes last fall, has returned to Belmont Park and has begun jogging for owner-trainer Charlton Baker.

According to the Daily Racing Form, the 8-year-old Distorted Humor gelding began jogging two weeks ago. Baker said that he will begin galloping in a week or so, and could possibly return to the work tab by the end of June.

“He came in a little fat but looking great,” Baker said in the Form. “Keep our fingers crossed he could come back to where he was, or even a notch below is fine with me.”

Joking captured the G1 Vosburgh and the G2 True North last year. He became sick after arriving in Southern California for the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, at first coming down with a temperature which then developed into pneumonia. The Form reports that Joking spent most of his recovery time at a farm in Southern California before shipping to Dr. Patty Hogan’s farm in New Jersey a few months ago.
