Lady Aurelia and Frankie Dettori pull away from the field to win the G2 Queen Mary Stakes by seven lengths
Stonestreet Stables, George Bolton and Peter Leidel’s juvenile filly Lady Aurelia is the heavy favorite for the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville this Sunday. Trained by Wesley Ward, the daughter of Scat Daddy broke her maiden first out at Keeneland in April, then captured the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot by more than seven lengths in just her second lifetime start. She had since returned to Keeneland to resume training, and just traveled to France last week for her first Group 1 test.
“Lady Aurelia hasn’t missed a day since Ascot and since we upped her schedule, every bit of work she’s done has been better than the last,” Ward told skysports.com. “I’ve looked the field over and it looks to be a competitive race, which is what you’d expect. But our filly is doing really great – I don’t think she could be doing better – and I’m confident we’ve got a really big chance.”
Only four rivals will line up against Lady Aurelia in the six-furlong event, though two of those are also undefeated graded stakes winners.
