Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy), John Velazquez up, wins the Giant’s Causeway Stakes at Keeneland 4.15.16. Wesley Ward trainer, Stonestreet Stables owner.
American-based trainer Wesley Ward is busily preparing his contingent of Thoroughbreds for the upcoming Royal Ascot meeting, scheduling the group for workouts over the ground at Ascot on Wednesday morning. According to The Sun, Lady Aurelia (King’s Stand), Arawak (Coventry), Bound For Nowhere (Commonwealth Cup), Happy Like A Fool (Queen Mary) and McErin (Norfolk) will all breeze on Wednesday in sets of three. One horse in each set will be ridden by jockey Frankie Dettori.
“They are doing so well they are ready to explode,” said Ward, who had originally planned to work the group on Tuesday at Newmarket. “I was fretting about the work all last night. I walked the track (at Newmarket) last night and it seemed a bit too hard, so I just thought it best to err on the side of caution and go for a little bit softer ground.”
One Ward trainee, Fairyland, completed her preparations at Keeneland on Monday and is flying overseas on Tuesday. She will run in either the Queen Mary or the Albany.
