Travers winner West Coast hit the work tab for the first time since his landmark victory on Monday, breezing three furlongs at Del Mar in company with G1 Gold Cup winner Cupid. According to bloodhorse.com, the pair were given a time of :35 3/5 for the distance.
“They were just breezing—just galloping,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “West Coast looked impressive. He came out of the Travers really well. He’s always been a good, strong horse, but he’s just coming around now and we were patient with him.”
West Coast is being aimed at the G1 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx on Sept. 23, while Cupid could head to the G1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita the following weekend. Also on the work tab for Baffert was Abel Tasman, breezing six furlongs in 1:11 3/5 for an engagement in the Cotillion Stakes at Parx the same weekend as the Pennsylvania Derby, as well as Vale Dori (four furlongs in :49 2/5) and Collected (three furlongs “breezing” in :37 flat).
