Winter – Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas

Scintillating – Winter becomes the first filly trained by the all-conquering Aidan O’Brien to win both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish 1000 Guineas in the same season with a stunning victory in the Group 1 Classic for fillies at the Curragh.

Ridden by Ryan Moore and well backed shortly before the race, Winter (8/13F) takes her rivals apart to storm to victory bynearly five lengths from stablemates Roly Poly (14/1) in second and Hydrangea (7/1) in third.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien now has a filly who has done the Classic double this season, emulating his start colt Churchill who has already won both the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish equivalent at the Curragh this season.

Twenty years after his first Classic success courtesy of Classic Park in the Irish 1000 Guineas, Aidan O’Brien has now won 70 European Classic races in the 20 years he has been a licensed trainer.
