In an interview with TVG Friday evening, trainer Richard Mandella confirmed that his charge Beholder will defend her title in the Pacific Classic on Aug. 20. Earlier in the day, her status had been listed as just ‘probable’ for the race, in which she will likely face California Chrome and Dortmund.
“We’re excited to give it a try,” said Mandella to Brittney Eurton. “I was reluctant to decide too early; I didn’t want to force her into our plans. But you saw the work the other day. She’s in great shape, she came out of it great. You only live once.”
The work to which Mandella referred was a :59 flat bullet five furlongs over Del Mar’s main track on Wednesday.
